[This is not a geo-specific post]
The retail salesperson of a product should educate the buyer about the product or atleast the buyer has to enquire and make sure he knows the basic FAQ's about the product, but its not happening around. Due to the mad rush in the discount season the seller of the product is unable to manage the crowd and to educate them. Some even impose notoriously bad deals as best discounts on the people. Most people fall victim being unaware...
Its not only Holiday Season, and also time to gift others (with Christmas coming around). The challenge now is to find the right gift at the right price. A no string product at right price is what we need. But do we all get that? Certainly Not!
The following are the holiday shopping traps most of us fall prey to...
Gift Cards :
As Per the New Federal rules, the gift cards issuers' are limited to impose certain fee and expiration date. In case of gift card's inactivity for atleast an year, you can be charged fees for inactivity and also service fees.
Consumer report's 2009 survey revealed that almost 25 percent of the people who received gift cards hadn't redeemed it even after an year!
An Important thing you need to know about Gift Card is that it is not protected against issuers' bankruptcy.
Best option is to go for either cash or check. Former has its own value and can be used anywhere, while the money remains in your bank account intil the latter is cashed !!!

In a savings promising Seasonal Discounts, most pays higher than the manufacturer's suggested retail price, reveals the "Consumer Report".
Best Option here is to go out for window shopping & Compare prices before going in for actual shopping. If u miss a sale don't worry, another one is coming around for sure before the season ends.
Warranty :
Extended warranty trap is another one where most people falls. The Fact is that the warranty on some repairs are often included in the standard warranty of the product. Better enquire and make yourself sure and comfortable before pucrhasing.
Best option here is "there are some credit cards through which when a product is brought, manufacturer's warranty is automatically extended !" for more details check your card's official website.

Return Policies :
Return policy may vary based on the type of purchase. Yeah it may vary for online shopping, mail-order & in-store purchases.
Best option is retain the receipt safe and inform the recipient about the return policy.
Restocking :
Electronic items and special orders incur a restocking fees ranging from 10 to 25 percent unless they are not returned in original factory-sealed container.
Best option here is Don't go for it unless you are sure that you want the item inside. Most electronic items aren't returnable if seal is broken.
